Oahu, Hawaii - USA
While Honolulu and Waikiki can be very crowded and touristy, the other parts of the island offer tranquility and solace. When traveling to Oahu my family often stays on Oahu’s West coast, an area better known as the local side of the island. A drive to the West coast will take you past beaches dotted with tents where the locals have made the beach their home. It’s no wonder that they have chosen to take up residence here as the beaches are welcoming and the people are few. This side of the island feels a world apart form the hustle and lights of Honolulu. Makaha is where I go to feel the islands as they were meant to be experienced, in slow motion.
